The PLS5
Laser system and the PLS3 laser
tool were developed to give contractors the ability to transfer critical
layout reference points for any job site task. Both are self-leveling,
compact and durable laser alignment tools. |
Every contractor has basic
alignment tasks to perform on the jobsite. No project can be completed
without layout of the work, installation of the material,
and quality control of the work. Each of those functions is accomplished
by determining plumb, level and square reference points. Nothing can be
built without them. The plumb bob and water level are ancient tools that
simply establish vertical or horizontal reference points. Reference lines
or planes cannot be determined without opposing reference points. Remember
when your high school geometry teacher drove you crazy with that simple
principal?
A plumb bob requires the efforts of
two people to determine vertical alignment. One person positions the top
of the string while the other waits for the weighted cone to stop swinging(in
the wind, if theyre outdoors). That can be an expensive exercise
at $45.00 per hour, per person. The PLS laser provides a bright, crisp
reference point down and up for quick and accurate plumb.
In the 1970's pioneers in the laser
industry developed rotating laser tools that incorporated vacuum tube
lasers. These tubes were about the same size of the tubes in your parents
old television. The size of the laser source made these first laser tools
heavy, bulky, expensive and difficult to use. Since then advances in laser
technology have produced innovative laser tools for construction. In the
1990's two contractors with over 50 years commercial multi - story construction
experience agreed that rotary lasers, although useful for some limited
applications, did not provide the utility or critical alignment information
required daily on a typical commercial or residential job site. As a result
PLS · Pacific Laser Systems was founded to develop portable, affordable
and valuable alignment solutions for professional building contractors.
Today contractors have a choice between
simple carpenter levels, laser levels, rotary levels and some hybrid laser
products. The challenge is to choose the right alignment tool for their
needs. Which laser tool provides the most utility on the job site everyday?
Which laser tool gives the highest return on investment?
From our experience there are laser
tools best suited for certain applications. For example, a contractor
who spends 90% of the workday installing acoustic ceilings or cement flatwork
outdoors should have a rotating laser with a detector. Rotating lasers
provide continuous plane either vertical or horizontal and are best used
when a continuous 360° degree reference is required.
However for a typical contractor who
performs multiple alignment tasks including plumb and square, no other
laser tool in the world is a better value than the PLS5 or PLS3.
What sets PLS · Pacific Laser Systems apart from the
rest?
PLS developed the PLS5 and PLS3 as
a result of a vision and passion for high quality work in the building
trades. As with most successful products, the PLS5 and PLS3 were developed
out of necessity by professionals experienced in their industry. PLS founders
were contractors before becoming manufacturers of the finest point to
point laser alignment tool in the world.
Point to point reference means you
can plumb with a PLS5 or PLS3 literally from floor to ceiling or from
50' off the ground. With our unique down beam, squaring or layout of 90°
angles can be done faster than ever before.
Our target market is the professional
contractor who needs a dependable alignment tool that will speed production
and save money. General Contractors and project managers use the PLS
laser to check existing conditions before work begins. They also use
it to judge the work performed by subcontractors. Subcontractors use PLS
lasers for layout on the job site. As much as 25% of the work day
can be spent on layout. The PLS5 system gives square reference
easily and quickly. No more 3-4-5. The unique PLS cantilever design
allows easy sight of the opposing reference points and is proven to be
effective in installing curtain walls, foundations, columns, skylights,
doors, cabinetry and much more. The portability and utility of PLS
lasers make them attractive alignment tools when bubble vial levels or
rotary lasers are too cumbersome or too limited to do the job.
PLS has established a credible
reputation within the industry. Our distribution is limited to professional
building materials dealers and other laser tool specialists across the
country. Because of the unique qualities and essential alignment information
available from PLS lasers, time saving applications are not limited
to one trade or contracting industry.
